ATTITUDE
Attitude is very important if you are going to be spiritually minded. Some people approach their spiritual life with the wrong attitude. When we come to the point that we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are suppose to be new creatures. (2 Corinthians 5:17) The term spiritually minded come from the 8 chapter of Romans. In verse 5 it talk about they that are in the flesh mind the things of the flesh. In other words they are control by the flesh. When someone who is control by the flesh try to study the word of God the result often time is tragic. There are some people who dig in the Word of God looking to justify what they are doing. These people will not let the Word change them and often times they misinterpret the Word to fit there situation. This is what the Bible call itching ears. (2 Timothy 4:3) Often time these people develop a you can’t tell me attitude and they find someone who will tell them what they want to hear. Carnal minded people who have the wrong attitude go to church to ease their conscience or to make themselves feel good but not to change. The spiritually minded man mind turn their attention to the things of the Spirit. These are the people who let the Word transform their lives. (Romans 12:2) God can and will change you if you let him. In the first chapter of Romans it talk about how men can think they are wise but really be fools, (22) and also how people change glory of God into a image of man,(23). This will not happen to someone who is truly spiritually minded. The question is not what can I get away with but Lord what do I need to change. If you approach God with the right attitude he will be able to do great things through you. We must become as little children (Matthew 18:4) or new born babes (1 Peter 2:2). Remember when you are born again you are like new born baby who must be carried until he can walk on his on. A baby is totally dependent on his mother so we must be totally dependent upon God and allow him to place people in our lives that will help us grow. This will be a local church that is preaching and teaching the Word of God. We must always remember to keep the right attitude if we are going to grow. It’s all about staying humble.

ARE YOU IN CHRIST

The most important thing we need to be spiritually minded is to be in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 talks about being a new creature or a new creation in Christ. This verse says if any man be in Christ he is a new creature old things are passed away and all things become new. The biggest word in this verse to me is if. There are a lot of possibilities in the word if. If you go to work you will get a pay check, if you don’t you won’t. The question is are you in Christ. The Bible say a tree is known by the fruit it bear, (Matthew 12:33) now we must remember that God wants us to bear fruit. A Christian may not bear any fruit but a Christian will not bear bad fruit on regular basis. I heard someone say you have as much of God as you want. God did his part, Jesus did his part, The Holy Spirit is doing his part but are we doing our part. If you are truly hungry or thirsty for God He will make sure your desire for him will be filled, (Matthew 5:6). When I said a Christian won’t bear bad fruit I’m talking about lifestyle. When we sin or miss the mark we have a advocate with the Father and that is the Lord Jesus Christ,(1 John 2:1). A advocate is a intercessor or a go between. Just because we have a advocate that is not a license to sin. Every apple on the tree may not be good but you won’t cut down the tree for 1 or 2 bad apples. The question then become what do we do with the bad apples. I’m a firm believer in going to higher heights and deeper depths in the Lord and if you are in Christ you deal with the bad apples. John 15:4 says you cannot bear fruit without Christ. Just like a branch need to be connected to the tree to grow we need to be connected or in fellowship with Christ to grow. Christ don’t produce bad apples so when God reveal to us that we have bad apples our only hope is to get closer to Christ. We must also remember that when we bear fruit he will purge or prune us so we will bring forth more fruit, (John 15:2) When you prune something you cut it back. This cutting back process will result in death to self and a closer walk with Christ. If you are in Christ that means Christ is in you. There is nothing that is in the branch that is not in the tree. Every Christian goal should be to conform to the image of Christ and we do this by dieing daily. When we see something that’s in us that is not in Christ or don’t please God ,because Christ always did what pleased his Father, (John 8:29), that is when we need to draw closer to Christ.

SPEND TIME WITH JESUS

In the fourth chapter of Acts Peter and John was preaching with boldness (13) and the leaders were surprise. One thing that stood out about Peter and John was that they had been with Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is more important than education when it come to being spiritually minded. Education is important but the anointing makes the difference. The bible says that some men would be ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth,(2 Timothy 3:7). We can get a bunch of facts in our head but we need Jesus in our heart. Jesus said he is the way, the truth and the life, (John 14:6). Knowledge is not necessarily truth but Jesus is truth and the only way to the Father. Remember there are two sides to every story. I heard one person side of the story and it was true but I got a better understanding when I heard the other person side. Jesus is the other side of the story and you will not get a complete understanding without spending time with Jesus. You can tell me what is in the cake but you can’t tell me how the cake taste until you taste it. You can tell me the facts about Jesus but you can’t tell me how it is to be in Christ until you are in Christ. Teaching from experience is more effective than telling a bunch of facts. Peter and John made a bigger impact because they were with Jesus. The religious leaders of that time didn’t have the same impact but they were educated. They said Peter and John were ignorant and unlearned but time with Jesus made the difference. Whether you can afford to go to school or not spend time with Jesus. I think everyone that can should further there Christian education but no matter how educated you are spend time with Jesus. While you are getting your education spend time with Jesus. After you are educated spend time with Jesus. Jesus will give you something that school can’t and that is power. The religious leaders could not say anything against Peter and John because they had that power (Acts 4:16). A miracle had been done and that is something that school can’t teach. When we rely more on education than Jesus we will lose power. Remember Jesus words when he said you cannot bear fruit unless you abide in me. (John 15:4)
